New Year’s Day Collard Greens

Here are Allyn’s tips for a Southern New Year’s Day plate of blessings. She serves up Black-eyed peas for good luck, and collard greens & cabbage for money & prosperity.

Next up: stewed tomatoes for compassion.

Collard Greens & Cabbage for Money & Prosperity

Wash collard greens and remove stems.

Chop the collards.

Quarter and chop the cabbage.

Steam collards & cabbage with black pepper. Serve with balsamic vinegar.

    Do you suppose it’s a coincidence that a frugal meal is eaten for prosperity? Or is it another teaching moment, over and over again? Yay for traditions.

    • Yes – I think the frugality is part of the lesson for prosperity. Someone else commented along those lines about her father using a ham bone – on the first post on the New Year’s Day meal.
