The Challenge

This January I joined the Year Of Stash Socks, a group on Ravelry, and pledged to knit a pair of socks a month using only yarn from my stash. Read more about my personal resons for joining YOSS2011.

Support me in my year long sock knitting spree for a chance to win a pair of hand-knit socks. I’m knitting one sock every two weeks, 24 socks total. When I finish a sock, I’ll post a YOSS2011 update which will include personal highlights from my life during that time period.

To Enter

All you need to do is comment with a personal highlight, occurring during the two week period featured, on any or all of the 24 YOSS2011 updates.

BONUS: Comment on ALL 24 bi-monthly YOSS2011 updates and your chances to win will be doubled for a total of 48 entries!

Subscribe to the YOSS2011 RSS Feed.

The giveaway will be open through January 15, 2012.

A beautiful pair of hand-knit socks will go to a person chosen randomly from all entries. Depending on the size of the winner’s foot, he or she will receive one of the pairs I knitted for the YOSS challenge, or a custom pair knit to fit.

I am not a knitter at all, and though I find so many of your color combinations absolutely delightful, I’m in love with 9 & 10/24. I find those hues so appealing they seem almost magical to me–heather on a hillside combined in the pale shades of dawn. I don’t know–they just resonate for me.

Your work is not just beautiful but inspiring! Each of those pairs of socks–hand or foot–seem to tell a story all their own.

    Stash On!!

  6. Libby says:

I am working on my first-ever pair of argyle socks. They’re a little rough around the edges, but I don’t know if a non-knitter would notice. My back-and-forth stockinette is zigzaggy and my in-the-round stockinette is fine, that is to say straight up and down. I’m using Irish cottage knitting technique, so maybe that’s it?

My big achievement this August was that I finally taught myself to knit!! whee! I’m starting simple and knitting me a cowl…can’t wait to finish it up and start on something else!

I love your beautiful quilts which I just discovered, and the stash sock idea is a really good one. My own small victory has been finishing one fair isle mitten using a pattern from the 1940s – it took a long time and a few attempts to get it right. I’ll perhaps get the second of the pair finished by the time winter comes round again!

I’m a beginning knitter and am so excited. It’s great to see the things that you’re working on – it helps me look forward to the days when I’ll be ready for my projects to be a bit more complex. You are a master of color and flow!

    • Lynda M Otvos (@LyndaMOtvos) says:

I so totally agree with Amy Pierre just above me: you are a Master of Color and Flow. In fabric, yarn, buttons, stylizing… all fields related to *your* specialty of nurturing others on their path to competency with quilting tools and design.

  18. Lynda M O says:

My small victories for this past winter when the weather cooperated were usually centered around “smallifying” my studio’s contents and preparing that space for the three guys from Spokane who were coming down to film the Sixties’ story-tellers and were trying not to pay motel prices. Success was ours on all counts–yay us !~!

  19. Bonnie says:

Brilliant – ! I’m still in awe of knitting socks………….and will vow to get a pair done this year – I promise!

  20. carol says:

I admire all that you do Sherri. Love your color combinations in your quilts and socks.

  21. Those are some great looking socks. Keep up the great work. I am really enjoying seeing your finished socks.

  22. Karen says:

I am inspired to cast on yet another pair when I see yours. But I have a couple that are crying for their second sock……Love your knitting!

  23. anna says:

i was inspired to begin knitting a toque, does that count? :P It’s variegated orange wool-blend yarn… I’m going to make it double thickness in an effort to insulate my noggin — it’s been so darn cold in Hamilton lately!

  24. Laura says:

You’re inspiring me. I’m about half way through my first sock ever!
I’m decreasing around the gusset right now.
I am not a part of a knit along; but, I’d love to try to knit a pair a month as well. We’ll see.
